To do a blood test for a disease, one method is to directly test the virus or germs to find out the root cause of the particular disease is one method. Another method is to test the antibodies produced for a particular disease.
For example, to find out if a person is at his home, one method is to go directly inside his house and see if he is there; another method is to check if his car is outside. Then you imply he is at home.
Likewise, directly testing the genetics of viruses/germs is RT-PCR Testing which is very accurate. Viruses/germs can also be found indirectly by testing if our body has produced antibodies against them is the Rapid Card Test which may or may not give correct results.
The coat proteins or antigens of the virus can also be tested.
Though HIV’s 1 & 2, P24 Antigen along with Antibodies is used in Fourth Generation tests to avoid false results, globally, RT-PCR tests are still considered the Gold Standard. You can ascertain that the results are 100 % accurate and correct with RT-PCR Test.
What do you mean by Window Period?
The time from which our body is exposed to a particular virus/germ to the test-taking day is called the Window Period.
For an HIV-like virus, it is better to do an HIV 1 & 2 Qualitative RT-PCR Test any day after ten days of exposure. Though this test is costly, it is accurate because it detects the Viral Genes directly.
If the result is positive, taking an HIV 1 & 2 Quantitative RT-PCR Test will help to know how much HIV virus is present in the body for an effective treatment.
The Window Period to see the antibodies produced by the body is usually after 20 to 30 days of exposure because everybody’s immunity is different. Usually, to produce antibodies the human body takes time. They don’t produce immediately after exposure. But after a period of 20 to 30 days after exposure depending on each individual’s immunity, the body will produce antibodies.
Therefore, taking the HIV Antibody Test immediately after exposure may not give an accurate result.
AMMAGENOMICS uses its own Patented RNA Extraction Kit and that is the reason we can give RT-PCR test results in three hours.
