Blood Bacteremia Testing

The information gathered can help confirm the cause of health concerns or rule out any potential concerns which are critical tools in helping healthcare providers understand.

MicroRDNAemia

Why is DNAemia or MicroRDNAemia testing conducted at AMMAGENOMICS?

Blood serves as a conduit for nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body, making it imperative to constantly monitor for foreign materials, be they live microorganisms, dead ones, or even fragments of their nucleic acids or partially digested food molecules. Upon detection of any such entities, the immune system swiftly initiates a robust defense response akin to a military operation. This response exerts a profound impact on the organs and the overall physiology of the body, influencing its transition from a state of health to disease, or conversely, facilitating its return to a healthy state.

In our laboratory, we frequently detect DNA or RNA from various microorganisms in the blood which gives clue to diagnosis of various diseases, that lead us to coin a term MicroRDNAemia. The presence of DNA RNA in the bloodstream holds the potential to contribute to the onset and progression of various diseases, stemming from bacteria, DNA, or RNA viruses, cytomegalovirus (CMV), fungi, parasites, and more.

Patients with hematological malignancies such as B-cell, T-cell LPD, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), multiple myeloma, undergoing intensive chemotherapy, immunotherapies, or allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) are particularly vulnerable to cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, which manifest as DNAemia in blood. Similarly, in pediatric cases, children with viral DNAemia containing Cytomegalovirus, polyomavirus in kidney transplantation patients, human herpesvirus adenovirus (HPV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are observed. Conducting DNAemia tests can help avoid unnecessary antiviral treatments.

Additionally, monitoring bacteriophage therapy, employed when antibiotics are impractical due to multi-drug resistant bacteria, is feasible using this blood diagnostic method, enabling accurate dosage determination. This approach offers a swift and reliable means to initiate treatment by identifying the infectious agents causing sepsis, even before blood culture reports are available, which typically take over 24 to 48 hours and are crucial for patients in ICU or intensive care units. These DNAemia tests are indeed life-saving diagnostic tools.

Furthermore, CMV-RNAemia, in conjunction with CMV-DNAemia, holds significance for post-transplant monitoring of CMV infection, especially in patients receiving LMV.

There are different methods used to test for Blood Bacteremia, including:

Blood Culture

Blood cultures are the primary diagnostic test for bacteremia. In this test, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a special culture medium that promotes bacterial growth. The sample is then incubated in the laboratory to allow any bacteria in the blood to multiply. After a specific period, the sample is examined for the presence of bacteria. Identifying the bacteria and performing antibiotic susceptibility testing can help determine the most effective antibiotic treatment.

    Molecular Testing

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and other molecular methods can also be used to detect bacterial DNA or specific genetic markers in the bloodstream. These tests are generally faster than blood cultures and can provide more rapid results, but they may not replace blood cultures entirely due to their limitations in identifying antibiotic resistance patterns.

    Serological Tests

Serological tests, such as Enzyme Immunoassays (EIAs) or Agglutination Tests, can help detect specific antibodies against certain bacteria. These tests may indicate a recent or past infection and can complement other diagnostic methods.

    Automated Blood Culture Systems

Some laboratories use automated blood culture systems, which continuously monitor blood cultures for bacterial growth. These systems can speed up the detection of positive cultures and help identify the presence of bacteria more efficiently.

Why test at AMMAGENOMICS?

AMMAGENOMICS is the pioneer in bringing Microbiome Tests from the Research Lab to the Diagnostics Lab. We at AMMAGENOMICS do Personalized Diagnostics Tests for each individual and find the root cause of the health issues and help them to get a cure and be healthy. In other labs, normally they do culture-based testing and it takes several weeks for the results to come and not all bacteria are detected. So that method is not accurate. At AMMAGENOMICS, we do specialized PCR-based microbiome tests to detect all the bacteria present in the blood and also the percentage of each bacteria present and give accurate results in a quick turnaround time.

An expert panel of health consultants will look at your medical condition through the Blood Bacteremia Test that supports the development of personalized treatments. Based on the test report, a diet plan and lifestyle changes are suggested to cure the infections and improve overall health. AMMAGENOMICS focuses on Idiopathic Diagnostic Testing and helps individuals completely cure their health issues.
