Farm Animals Genetic Testing

Genetic testing in farm animals involves analyzing their DNA to gain insights into their genetic makeup and traits. This information can be used for various purposes, including breeding programs, disease resistance, productivity enhancement, and conservation efforts. We test Farm animals to identify their gender. We do DNA extraction from the bird’s feathers, which may help the researchers to explore the wild bird varieties.

Key aspects related to genetic testing in farm animals are:

Parentage Verification

Genetic Testing can determine the parentage of animals, ensuring accurate pedigree records and facilitating breeding programs. This is especially crucial in livestock breeding to maintain and improve desirable traits.

For Cattle, we do both A1 and A2 genetic testing using milk both for cow and bull. This is very important to make sure the semen is of the right breed. We can do the testing using, milk, saliva or hair or blood.

Disease Resistance

Genetic Testing can identify specific genes associated with resistance or susceptibility to certain diseases. By selectively breeding animals with a higher resistance, farmers can improve overall herd health and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.

Production Traits

Genetic Testing allows the identification of genes related to desirable production traits such as meat quality, milk production, egg quality, or wool characteristics. By selectively breeding animals with superior genetic traits, farmers can improve productivity and profitability.

Genetic Diversity

Genetic Testing helps assess the genetic diversity within a population or breed. This information is valuable for conservation efforts, ensuring that endangered or rare breeds maintain a healthy and diverse gene pool.

Genomic Selection

Genomic Selection is a technique that uses genetic testing to predict an animal’s performance or breeding value based on its DNA. By analyzing specific genetic markers across the genome, breeders can select animals with desirable traits more accurately, accelerating genetic progress.

Disease Detection

Genetic Testing can also be used to identify specific genetic mutations or markers associated with inherited diseases in farm animals. Early detection allows for appropriate management strategies and the potential removal of affected individuals from breeding programs to prevent the transmission of genetic disorders.

Why test at AMMAGENOMICS?

We at AMMAGENOMICS have developed our own rapid, high-throughput PCR tests to do Genetic Tests in farm animals and the results are given in a quick turnaround time. Most of the testing labs use a conventional method which involves comprehensive, laborious, and time-consuming testing procedures and the results take several days to weeks. But at AMMAGENOMICS with our advanced technology, we give the results in a few hours. We do PCR-based tests and DNA Sequencing for Genetic Testing.
