Why do you need to test honey and traditional sugar?
Honey, palm jaggery, coconut jaggery, cane jaggery, unrefined sugar, etc., are high-value natural sweetener, which is rich in health-promoting antioxidants, flavonoids, polyphenols, and minerals. But currently what we buy from the market is poor in these and is highly adulterated with chemicals and toxic preservatives.These days due to increased global demand and lack of public awareness, many popular brands, and local honey vendors adulterate their honey products with cheap sugar syrup, caramelized sucrose, toxic chemicals, and pesticides that are harmful to consumers. Instead of traditional sugar, poison¬ous substances like saccharine or cyclamate dulsine are added to foods to sweeten them.
Cane jaggery and cane gur are adulterated with maida, sugar, and chemicals like superphosphate, sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate, artificial coloring agents, sodium hydro sulfate, and several other chemicals.
The smart way to fool the public is by keeping white sugar syrup solutions near bee farms. The farmed bees (not forest bees) pick up sugar syrup and make honey. This honey is sold as pure honey and claimed as unadulterated honey. It is very difficult to test.
Prolonged consumption of these sweeteners leads to various diseases like diabetes, obesity, cardiac issues, cholesterol, skin-related issues, cancer, etc. So it is very important to check the traditional jaggery, honey, unrefined sugar, and natural sweeteners before you consume.
